JULY_Dan Borelli & Tomashi Jackson: 36 Views of the Fiske Coal Plant
An installation by two Boston-based artists Dan Borelli and Tomashi Jackson, 36 Views of the Fiske Coal Plant is a series of 36 drawings of the Pilsen area power facility produced from descriptions that have been provided by 18 Chicago area residents. The artists use communication technologies and the grid scale drawing method made famous by practices of Mexican, American, and Renaissance artists to transfer 36 drawings onto the street facing glass surfaces of the Pilsen storefront studio and the NMMA in Chicago.  The artists ask 18 Chicago area residents to describe their views of the plant from their daily domestic and greater urban  experiences in Chicago. The material and visual experience of the Fiske Coal Plant will be transformed into a narrative interior experience driven by visual art traditions of observational drawing visualizing the mountainous smokestack and those affected by its environmental contamination.   View Larger
